Outreach & Education

Outreach & education

MiGen is Michigan’s only provider of LGBTQ+ aging cultural competency training and education, designed to equip leadership and staff with the knowledge and tools to effectively serve LGBTQ+ older adults with respect and dignity, while fostering safe, inclusive, and affirming environments. Through tailored training programs, technical assistance, and ongoing support, we help aging service providers and community spaces value all experiences and ensure everyone is treated with care and understanding.

Training, offered through live, instructor-led sessions or accessible asynchronously, provides a comprehensive look at the unique history, needs, cultures, and concerns of LGBTQ+ older adults, and  covers topics such as social isolation, faith-based challenges, HIV and aging, transgender and nonbinary health, Alzheimer’s, and more. Participants will learn practical steps to implement immediately, including inclusive outreach materials, policies, and communication strategies to establish more affirming and welcoming services.

All of our training sessions offer select Continuing Education (CE) credits and Implicit Bias training credits.

Instructor-Led

Instructor-led courses can be conducted either in-person at your location or virtually, led by one of our subject matter expert trainers across the state. These courses cover a wide range of topics and include interactive discussions and activities. Instruction is available from beginner to advanced levels, and we can also create customized training tailored to your specific needs.

Asynchronous: Act. Reflect. Commit

Act. Reflect. Commit. (ARC) is MiGen’s on-demand, self-paced online learning curriculum, designed for individuals who prefer to complete their training at their own convenience. This flexible learning platform allows participants to engage with a variety of modules covering essential LGBTQ+ aging topics, providing valuable insights and practical strategies.
