MiGen offers programs and services statewide and virtually, making it easy to access support no matter where you live in Michigan. Whether you need help navigating resources or are looking to connect with community, we’re just a phone call or email away.
You can also visit MiGen’s LGBTQ+ Senior Center—Michigan’s first and only—located in the lower level of Affirmations at 290 W. 9 Mile Rd, Ferndale, MI 48220. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM, offering affirming resources, programs, and a welcoming space to connect and build community. Stay tuned for our second senior center location, opening at Corktown Health in Detroit later this year!

Current Programs
Community Navigation: Our Community Navigation program is designed to help LGBTQ+ older adults access the services and resources they need with personalized support. Navigators work one-on-one with individuals to guide them through complex systems like healthcare, housing, legal services, and social programs, ensuring they receive the care and assistance that is both affirming and inclusive of their unique identities.
Monthly Food Box Delivery – No one should have to worry about their next meal. Each month, we deliver boxes of non-perishable food to income-eligible adults aged 60 and older in Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Macomb Counties, ensuring access to essential nutrition in a supportive and inclusive way.
Tech Buddy – Navigating the digital world can feel overwhelming, but no one has to do it alone. Our Tech Buddy program offers virtual and in-person support for tasks like online bill paying, setting up email, learning to use Zoom, and more—helping older adults stay connected with confidence.
Friendly Caller– Stronger connections create stronger communities. Friendly Caller pairs older adults and caregivers with a peer or intergenerational partner for regular phone conversations—offering social support, shared experiences, and meaningful connection.
Trans Aging Project – Trained volunteer health advocates provide support for transgender and gender-expansive older adults at medical appointments, ensuring they receive affirming care, advocacy, and access to critical resources.
Social Events:
Second Sunday Artist (Virtual)- Each month, a community-based artist joins us virtually for a live discussion about their work, creative process, and insights—followed by an interactive Q&A. Everyone is welcome to listen, learn, and engage.
Intergenerational Book Club (Virtual) – A virtual gathering where stories bring generations together. This book club explores LGBTQ+ books, authors, and themes, creating space for discussion, connection, and shared experiences across ages.
Crafts & Conversation (Ferndale) – A welcoming, drop-in space for LGBTQ+ older adults where creativity and community come together. Each month, participants can drop in at any time to enjoy arts, crafts, and conversation while building connections. Craft supplies are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own.
Group Outings – Enjoy fun and connection with the community through activities like group volunteer days, social outings, visits to art exhibits, museums tours, and more.

Support and Discussion Groups (virtual and in person):
Downriver Sip & Chat -Kekoa Brew Co., Woodhaven
Hosted in partnership with The Senior Alliance, the Downriver Sip & Chat brings LGBTQ+ older adults together to connect, build community, and engage in conversations on topics ranging from hobbies and personal interests to health care access and the challenges of social isolation.
Second Monday of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
Pride in Aging Coffee & Chat – Turner Senior Resource Center, Ann Arbor
In partnership with Community Health Services of U-M Health’s Turner Senior Wellness Program at the Turner Senior Resource Center, Pride in Aging Coffee & Chat provides a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ older adults to gather regularly, socialize, share stories, and connect with the community.
Second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
Caregiver Support Group – Virtual
Open to LGBTQ+ caregivers and those caring for LGBTQ+ older adults, this virtual support group provides a safe space to connect, share experiences, and find support. Discussions focus on the unique challenges of caregiving while also recognizing the meaningful rewards it brings.
Second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00PM
Men of the Hour – MSU Detroit Center, Detroit
Men of the Hour is a discussion group addressing issues specific to Men Living with HIV/AIDS (MLWHA), covering topics from behavioral and physical health to community and social justice issues. This group offers education, support, and a space for open conversation. Dinner provided.
Third Wednesday of each month from 5:00 – 7:00PM
Detroit Elders Project – Hannan Center, Detroit
The Detroit Elders Project provides a space for LGBTQ+ older adults and allies to engage in meaningful discussions on important issues. Covering behavioral and physical health as well as broader community concerns, this program educates, informs, and fosters connection. Open to all ages 18+, discussions welcome all interested participants. This group includes a complimentary, light meal each month.

Senior Koffee Klatch (SKK) – Affirmations, Ferndale
Affirmations’ Senior Koffee Klatch is a weekly discussion group for LGBTQ+ people aged 45 and up, now in its second decade of fostering connection, conversation, and community. This longstanding group provides a welcoming space for participants to build meaningful bonds and support one another.
Meets every Wednesday from 1:00–2:30 PM
