(Ferndale Michigan – June 30, 2024) – The Michigan LGBTQ+ Elders Network (MiGen), Michigan’s only nonprofit focused exclusively on LGBTQ+ older adults, announced today that Angela Lippard, CRS-A/D, will be transitioning from her role as Chair of MiGen’s board of directors. Although Angela will step down from the Chair position, she will continue to contribute her expertise, activism, and
leadership as a valued and active member of MiGen’s training & education committee. The transition is part of MiGen’s ongoing evolution to ensure continued progress and innovation in supporting the unique needs of LGBTQ+ older adults.
“During my time on the board, I witnessed MiGen increase the number of employees, add needed services, rebrand, and build a strong organizational infrastructure,” said Angela. “I am thankful that I was able to serve and support MiGen through this tremendous growth and significant change. I
am grateful to the talented staff and dedicated board members at MiGen for their continued service to LGBTQ+ older adults.”
Angela is the current Resource Center Manager for AgeWays Nonprofit Senior Services (formally Area Agency Area on Aging 1-B) has over 20 years of experience serving older adults, and specializes in long-term care options counseling, resource brokering, and LGBTQ+ specific services, Angela has brought invaluable expertise, compassionate leadership, and a deep commitment to advocating for the needs of older LGBTQ+ adults, and her contributions have been instrumental in shaping inclusive, effective, and affirming supportive services and programs at MiGen that help older LGBTQ+ folks “age out loud” with dignity and authenticity.
Angela began her tenure as a board member in 2019 and transitioned to Board Chair in 2021. She has since been a vital, steady, and supportive part of stewarding the organization through a period of transformational growth and professionalism that has included a new Executive Director; a rebrand; board, staff, budget and programmatic growth; and more.
Roger Bushnell, a Senior Advisor at CarePatrol Franchise Systems, who has served on MiGen’s board of directors for 4 years and as Vice Chair for 1 year, will step into the role of Board Chair.
“MiGen is privileged to have a team of passionate employees and dedicated board members. I am fully confident in my ability to build on the outstanding work of my predecessor, Angela Lippard,” said Roger. “The significant growth that MiGen has experienced demonstrates our unwavering dedication. The organization’s impact on Michigan’s LGBTQ+ seniors through direct services, social opportunities, and advocacy is truly remarkable.”
Additionally, MiGen’s new Executive Committee will include Courtney Mucklin as Vice Chair, Royale Theus as Secretary, and Dr. Richard Ginnetti continuing in his role as Treasurer. The board of directors also welcomed David Hind as a new member. David is currently the Program Manager for Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter’s HIV & LGBTQ+ supportive services.
With Angela’s continued involvement and the introduction of new leadership (details below), MiGen is poised to build on its successes and expand its impact even further.
